Bikini Body

I want to talk about that photo Khloe Kardashian is trying to get scrubbed from the internet. I googled it, expecting to see something really weird looking or really...something.
What I found is a picture of her, without a bunch of filters, and a body I would die to have.

But forget the bikini.

Forget Instagram. This photo is about something much bigger.

If you follow me, you know I’ve been doing a lot of work on myself: loving myself for who I am, imperfections & all. And the more I love myself, treat myself well, accept myself for who I am...the better my life is; the more authentic love I have to ‘give’ to others around me. The minute I start disliking myself I start needing people around me to behave in a certain way to prop up my self esteem. It’s a job they never asked for, shouldn’t have to do & is always a disaster for everyone.

Here’s what this has to do with Khloe. The other day I went to visit a friend whose life on paper looks a lot better than mine. She’s financially & professionally very successful, she’s not divorced, her kids are all happy as can be, married to great partners. You get the picture, her life looks perfect.
I started comparing myself to her and here’s what happened. I lost every bit of appreciation and gratitude for who I authentically am, where I am & what I have.

So that brings me back to the Khloe Kardashian photo. This isn’t about Khloe changing the photos she posts, or my friend changing her life.
This was a lesson for me, in what I have control over, what each of has control over.
We each have a choice every day, whether it’s on the internet or in real life, of whether to compare ourselves to the edited and unedited versions of others we see, or put our efforts into accepting the selves we are and the lives we have.

I’m not going to pass judgement on anyone else, but I can tell you, without hesitation, that accepting ourselves is the path of success.
