What I Saw In Israel

This is one of my most fun memories of Israel, sitting with my Jewish tour guide and Muslim driver eating Shawarma, which is of course North African.
I loved the mix of cultures, tastes and smells; it was intoxicating. The diversity of people and customs in the Middle East is fascinating.
My Jewish guide made a point of contracting with Muslim owned transportation companies. It was his contribution to bridging the divide between peoples. A few days ago I asked him if he had talked with his Muslim and Palestinian friends since the war started.
I met Muslim, Jewish and Christian people in Israel and Jordan. I talked to Palestinians and Israelis. My trip was only 4 short weeks ago and at the time all had hopes they were maybe close to living somewhat peacefully together.
That all appears to be shattered now. I pray that their leaders will find the path.
